Short Bio:

JF Valarcherqualified as aveterinary surgeon in ToulouseVeterinarySchool (ENVT) (France) in 1990. Heworked in theeducation program ofENVT fortenyears as assistant andthen asassociated professor in RuminantMedicine.

Simultaneously, hespecialised invirology andobtained aPhD on the "Persistence andevolution of bovinerespiratorysyncytial virus (BRSV)"atENVT and Pasteur institute.Between 2000 and 2005, heworked firstasvisitingresearcheratIAH Compton, UK, where hestudied thepathogenic andimmunologicalcharacteristics ofBRSV recombinants as potential vaccines andthen as leader of theEpidemiology ofVesicularDiseases groupwithin the FAO/OIE Foot-and-mouthdisease (FMD)referencelaboratory (IAH Pirbright).From 2006, he worked as international consultant in animalhealth (e.g. FMD, HPAI, etc)based in Sweden.

In 2007, hewas simultaneouslyappointed as a associate professor within theVeterinaryFaculty at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) in Uppsala, Sweden and in 2010 also as head of Department of Virology, Immunobiolgy and Parasitology at the Swedish Veterinary Agency (SVA). Inparallel tohisinterest forveterinary education,hisfields ofinterest inresearch focus on aspects of virology,immunology andepidemiologythatcontribute for abetterunderstanding and control of viraldiseases in livestock with a particular interest in vaccine development.
